That’s Stupid!

From the Pastor…              “That’s Stupid !”

There is nothing so stupid as the educated man if you get him off the thing he was educated in. — Will Rogers

Life is tough, but it’s tougher if you’re stupid. — Unknown

Whenever a man does a thoroughly stupid thing, it is always from the noblest motives. –Oscar Wilde

Since stupid is a word that I use to describe many things, I thought it would be interesting to look up quotes using the word stupid.  I found many amusing and insightful observations.

Of course, I admit to being lazy when I use such an all-encompassing word as stupid.  By saying, “That’s stupid,” it usually means, “I disagree with that.”  Were I to put a little more effort into expressing myself, I might say such things as:

“It seems to me that another course of action would be wiser.”

“I think this decision will result in bad consequences.”

“I believe that choice is a poor one in light of the circumstances.”

– But no, it’s just easier to say, “That’s stupid.”

It’s a very judgmental word. It’s an opinion, not necessarily a fact.  It’s also a very relative word since what one person deems stupid another person judges to be wise. It depends on what we value and what we draw from our life experience.

ART thrills one person while another finds it meaningless and boring.

SPORTS consume the passion of one man while his friend completely ignores them.

One politician appeals to a voter while another voter thinks that politician is an idiot.

— I guess you could say that “Stupid is in the eye of the beholder.”

Proverbs 12:1 says, “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.”  Many other proverbs describe a fool and foolish ways.  So even God uses the word stupid to describe things and people. But God knows what He is talking about, while we, with our limited knowledge, don’t. It just might be that we are stupid about many more things than we imagine.

Is that stupid, or what?

God’s best to you,
