Someone Ought To Do Something!

From the Pastor…      Someone Ought To Do Something!

You’ve got a lot of very, very smart people standing by waiting for somebody else to do the work.  Not a recipe for long-term solvency in my opinion. — Mike Rowe

There is a show-tune from the play My Fair Lady where Liza Doolittle’s father sings a catchy song which begins with the lyrics:

The Lord above gave man an arm of iron
So he could do his job and never shirk
The Lord above gave man an arm of iron
But, with a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck
Someone else will do the blinkin’ work

Isn’t that that the attitude of many who say: Someone ought to something about _____________? – Ah yes, and who is someone?  Usually it means, NOT ME!

You want trash picked up from the roadway?

You want potholes fixed?

You want honesty in government processes?

You want more done to help the poor?

You want a better church?

Well, is there something YOU can do about it… or is it easier just to complain?  Sure, there are times when we are powerless to effect change, but many other times we can do the work ourselves.

When God needed someone to go to the people with His message, He asked: Who will go?  Isaiah piped up and said, “Here I am, Lord, send me” (Isaiah 6:8).  We remember and honor Isaiah because he didn’t expect someone else to go… he went!  History is full of men and women who saw a need and decided to do something about it.  Obstacles were many and it wasn’t easy, but they made a difference. – So can you!
