Just Thank, Just Give

From the Pastor…    Just Thank, Just Give

Thanksgiving Day is a good day to recommit our energies to giving thanks and just giving. — Amy Grant

This is the time of year when help agencies, non-profits, and a host of organizations send out glossy mailings, letters, and appeals for contributions.  They know that it’s a good time to do this, since there is a giving-spirit in the air… or at least a lot of talk about giving.

I like Amy Grant’s quote because it connects this Thursday’s holiday not only with giving thanks for what WE have, but it reminds us to give out of our abundance to those who have little or nothing.  To give with arrogant condescension negates the positive effects of giving.  To give humbly and quietly without fanfare is the way to do it.  Jesus said: when you give, do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing, which sounds weird, except that he vividly expresses how unconscious of self we should be as we give.  (When you give to others, don’t take a selfie while doing it.)

This week, is there some way you can both give thanks AND give?  Sure, there is!  Watch for the door of opportunity God opens for you this week… and then walk through it.  You will be glad you did!
