From the Pastor…     Mistakes Never Made

A smart man makes a mistake, learns from it, and never makes that mistake again.

You and I make our share of mistakes in life.  It’s embarrassing, but inevitable. We think we know what we are doing… we figure we have enough information… we are confident in our ability to act… but, no, it results in a mistake.

We learn much from mistakes.  Oh, some of us don’t.  We repeat mistakes, which is something dumber than making the mistake the first time! – As kids, my brother and I found one of our dad’s razor blades and wondered if that thing was really all that sharp?  My brother ran his finger along the edge and opened a nice little slice.  So, what did I do?  I still wondered if it was all that sharp and ran my finger across it, too.  Blood flowed.  What a dummy… but I never did it again.

How much better to observe the mistakes others make… then avoid them.  They say that cocaine gives you a tremendously good feeling and a wonderful high.  I believe that’s true.  But cocaine addiction leaves one constantly seeking that initial high (which isn’t possible) and leads only to terrible self-erosion and misery.  So, I will never sample cocaine.  Lesson learned from the experience of others.

Look around you.  Notice others’ mistakes others.  Your co-worker having an affair, which destroys his marriage.  Your friend’s alcohol consumption causing her to make a jack-ass of herself.  Your neighbors’ surly attitude causing everyone to dislike and avoid them.  The liar whose lies eventually catch up with him, destroying his credibility and reputation. – The wise person gets to know Jesus and then does his/her best to imitate him.  After all, he didn’t make any mistakes.
