Congratulations, Men!

From the Pastor       Congratulations, Men!

I want to congratulate all the men out there who are working diligently to be good fathers whether they are stepfathers, or biological fathers or just spiritual fathers. — T. D. Jakes

When my father was eight years old, his father passed away. Fortunately, there were men in his family who served as good role models for my dad, as well as men of the church who did such things as attend father-son events with him so that he was included and supported. My dad was the best father a man could ask for; the mentoring of caring men combined with the upbringing of a wonderful mother enabled him to be a great dad.

Children define manhood primarily by what they see of manhood in their fathers. They are watching, imitating, and assimilating what morals, standards, ideals, attitudes, opinions, and manners they see in dad.  If dad is honest and polite, it’s highly likely that his son and daughter will be the same.  If dad is an abusive jerk… well, children do well to find decent role models.

Men should not discount their influence on younger men and boys in their circles of family, work, and church.  I have heard many comments through the years of young males who admired the character and actions of older men.  Many times, the ones being admired weren’t even aware of the positive influence they were having.

Christian men of all people should demonstrate a godly definition of manhood, which is exactly what we find in Jesus of Nazareth.  Talk and act like him and you will be a great father influence, either within your family or to some young man or young lady. – Happy Father’s Day to all families!

                          God’s best to you today,

                                           Lee
