From the Pastor     A Well-fed Mind

Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality. — Earl Nightingale

Brain experts estimate that 85% of our thinking is done at the sub-conscious level. Whenever you have a “hunch” or experience of nagging feeling about something, that is your subconscious mind at work.  It’s where a “gut feeling” comes from.  How many times have you tried to recall a word or name and given up trying… only to have it pop into your head 15 minutes later? – Your sub-conscious mind kept looking for it and then tossed it up to your conscious mind.  So much of our cognizance comes from that part of our brain which operates on a different level than what we are aware of at any given moment.

Well- known psychotherapist/author M. Scott Peck felt that the Holy Spirit is closely identified and operates in our sub-conscious minds.  He may be onto something there since Paul wrote that the Spirit intercedes for us “with sighs too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26). Sounds sub-conscious to me.

While we don’t understand the mechanics of the mind, we know that pouring goodness, truth, and wholesome ideas into it produces good, true, wholesome outcomes in life.  Positive, uplifting, informative input is processed and absorbed, thus training us to respond effectively.

So, what are you feeding your mind today?

The Bible is the best place to start.

                          God’s best to you today,
